Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: Congratulations to Dr. David Bazzo, former SDCMS President, on being named by The California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) as the 2023 Family Physician of the Year. CAFP presents this prestigious award to an individual who exhibits the finest qualities of family physicians, and who goes above and beyond in service to patients, community, and colleagues.

Dr. Bazzo was recently awarded the UCSD Medical Staff Physician Professionalism Award 2023, and recognized in many areas, including: Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2022, recipient of the San Diego County Medical Society 2023 Jim Hay Award for distinguished service to SDCMS membership and the entire San Diego community, Best in California Magazine — Doctor Edition in the field of Sports Medicine 2022, and San Diego’s Physicians of Exceptional Excellence “San Diego’s Top Doctors” in the field Sports Medicine, San Diego Magazine in 2022.

David Bazzo is one of San Diego Countys most respected and beloved physician leaders and we are glad to see him once again recognized for his remarkable service to his patients and our region’s medical community.

Webinars This Week on Screening for Age and MedicallyRelated Driving Impairments:
 
The Training, Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) program at the UC San Diego School of Public Health and School of Medicine is presenting two upcoming webinars on ‘Screening and Management of Age and MedicallyRelated Driving Impairments.

 

This course trains clinicians to assess patients for medical conditions and medications which can adversely affect driving fitness. Risk management issues will be discussed, including the mandated California DMV reporting requirements of impairing conditions. The increase in noncompliant and nonadherent patients is a concerning issue for healthcare professionals. Noncompliant and nonadherent patients are often associated with a variety of chronic and acute issues that need to be identified for treatment. Medical record documentation must reflect identification of patients who do not follow recommendations for treatment and follow up. Documentation is important to respond to health plan grievances, to respond to Medical Board complaints, and serves to support dismissal of a patient if warranted. 1 CME Credit available  CLICK HERE

To help physicians prepare CMA has partnered with CHHS and developed the ‘CMA Data Exchange Explainer Series’ to walk practices through various considerations in implementing robust data exchange. This webinar reviews best practices to ensure secure, timely, and accurate data exchange day–in and day–out.
